Due to time and money constraints, 2.81 Berkeley Unix will be available at
Boston's Usenix conference next week as an alpha distribution ONLY. The
alpha distribution will be limited to the set of requestors under the
following conditions:
1) They must be valid 2.8 Berkeley license holders .
2) They must promise to return a tape containing any bugs/bugfixes
they have found, plus any other contributions.
3) Sites must be accessible to computer mail over ARPA or uucp networks.
Condition 1 must be verified in person to me. Condition 2 will occur under
the onus of ever recieving distribution tapes in the future.
There will be a very limited number of tapes, so only people who will immediatly
refine and extend the software should run to get one. People with casual
intentions should wait for a more comprehensive distribution.
The tape will just be a standard TAR tape of sources and executables. The system
has been tested on the following hardware configurations for various lengths of
time:
(virus) PDP 11/40, 248k, Emulex RM02/Ampex DM980
(menlo70) PDP 11/70, 3.6mb, RP06, TE16
(menlo44) PDP 11/44, 1.25mb , Emulex RM02/CDC 9762,Emulex TU/TM-11
Those interested see me, or leave a message on the message board at the
conference .
Bill Jolitz.
