'sed -e' dumps core

This is not useful information.  Sed on what machine running what
OS?  If available, it would also be nice to know what version of
sed (see what(1), or strings(1)) you were running.  "sed -e" seems
to work fine on 4.[0123]BSD and 4.3BSD-tahoe.
