Maybe K. & R. and the ANSI standard should be modified to read:

	"The only use of a label is as the target of a GOTO
         or as the operand of '&'.  In the latter case,  the
	 compiler is required to produce the diagnostic message
	 'fatal error: programmer I.Q. too low'."
