Character-type macro question

	The hint is in the _x_.  I presumed (and my manual agreed), that
        it returns true for Hex digits, i.e. 0-9, a-f & A-F, and false
        for any othe argument.  It IS documented in our IS/3 manual, and
        in the PC/IX manual as well.
