Natural Language Parsers

A friend had a question for these lists:
	Does anyone know of work done in C dealing with natural
	language parsers (specifically, English).  He wants to
	be able to recognize and parse simple and compound
	sentences.  Public domain sources would be preferred,
	but any help is appreciated.
