The department here at Michigan is looking into a change in our second
course in CS to use a different, more "full-featured" language than
Pascal. We are also looking into a move for this course from our
venerable MTS operating system on a mainframe to Apollo Domain network
machines we have. In particular, we are interested in C++ and Modula-2
compilers for these environments (we have a "home-grown" C++ prototype,
but it is not robust enough for student use).
Sooo, ... Does anyone out there have information on implementations
of C++ or Modula-2 which run on Apollo Domain and which will support
more-or-less beginners in a fairly comfortable way? We are also looking
for textbooks which emphasize more advanced data structures and
algorithms material and for reports on experiences using the same.
Please mail responses; I'll summarize to the net if there is
sufficient interest.
