Stupid Question

The discussion about noalias is way over my head. Exactly what is 'aliasing',
and why does it make such a difference? Microsoft C has a "no alias checking"
switch, and they give an example of an alias. They mention that it will speed
up the program. How does this work? If you think this needs to be on the net,
post it there, otherwise, direct replies are appreciated.
