Looking for experiences using C in CS1 course

My colleagues and I are involved in a discussion concerning the
advisability of using C as the language in our CS1 course. At the
present time, we are using Pascal in this course and introducing C in
a more advanced course. We see significant advantages in changing
to C but, at the same time, have some apprehension about using C as a
the language for beginning students.
Not wanting to "re-invent the wheel", we are interested in the
experiences that others may have had. If you have used C as the
language in a beginning course, I would appreciate receiving a note
from you about your experience. Please E-mail your responses to me
at either of the addresses below. Since there may be others who are
at a similar point in the development of their CS curriculum, I will
post a summary of the responses to comp.edu.
