Can Getopt's stderr message be turned off?

Hi, I am using getopt and in cases where it is given an illegal (unknown)
option, it returns an error message to stderr. I would rather have it
ignore these, and not give any error message. Is it possible to somehow
prevent this?

p.s. Thanks to all who responded to my last question! (regarding detecting
whether argv[1] is an integer or not) I received many very helpful
suggestions.
