Wanted: docs (and possibly sources) on Lempel Ziv encoding

I'm looking for descriptions and possibly implementations of the Lempel
Ziv encoding scheme. Could anyone send me a pointer to, or documents
about this compressing technique. Sources in C or ADA or Pascal are useful
too.
