Need Justification for GNU-C

I'm trying to convince the powers that be in this company to go to gcc (The
GNU-C compiler) (and possibly g++) as a way of standardizing on one compiler
across all our supported platforms. Actually, I'm more open minded than
that. Let's say I've heard that gcc is the way to go, and I'm looking for
arguments both for and against going this route. Currently, we support
Ultrix, Sun O/S, VMS, and AIX on Vax, Sun3, Vax, and RT respectively,
although we are probably going to support Sun4, DecStation 3100, and
PS/2-80s.
Specifically:
1) Are there gcc ports for all these machines. (We don't want to have to
port the compiler ourselves. That's not what we're in business for.)
2) Do any of these machines have manufacturer's supplied compilers that are
better than gcc.
3) Is there any incompatibility with using third party libraries with gcc,
specifically the Oracle ProC/HLI library.
4) Can I expect better performance compared to the manufacturer's compilers.
(or cfront? - could hardly be worse)
