detecting disk full in Microsoft C

I am trying to detect when my disk is full while writing to an output
file in Microsoft C.  I tried testing ferror(outfile) for non-zero, but
this does not seem to work.  Any help will be appreciated, and please
reply directly to me.  Thank you,  -David-
