One final consideration I would like to bring to bear about this whole
crossposting issue is that often when someone posts a question, he wants to
post to the group that will GET HIM THE MOST REPLIES. It is possible that
a large amount of MSC users don't read comp.os.msdos.programmer or
comp.sys.ibm.pc.programmer, since they consider themseleves "non machine
specific"...then again, I could be wrong about all this.
I find this problem especially apparent for something like :
"I am using MSC 6.00 to try and read the values on my joystick. It has
to be interrupt controlled for fast response in a flight simulator that
I am writing."
I actually posted this and was informed by several (about 5 or 6) people
that the appropriate newsgroup was either comp.sys.ibm.pc.programmer and
comp.os.msdos.programmer, comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware, comp.lang.c, or
rec.games.programmer! This type of thing tends to cause confusion,
especially those new on the net.
To summarize:
Cross posting, within limits (and that's the catch), should be tolerated
when there is a REASONABLE EXPECTATION THAT A KNOWLEDGEABLE REPLY WILL BE
RECEIVED. A question about QIOs and ASTs in C wouldn't be a very good
candidate for a comp.lang.c posting, but the bug list seemed reasonable.
Enough bw has been eaten by this. Thank you and God bless.
Brian
