UniForum Technical Committee BoFs

Where: Ramada Renaissance Hotel at Techworld Washington, D.C.
West Salon, Conference Level
GENERAL SESSION - 7:00pm
Heinz Lycklama, Chair of the UniForum Technical Committee
and Senior Vice President of Interactive Systems, will
provide an update of Technical Committee activities. Ralph
Barker, UniForum's Director of Technical Services, will
discuss future goals and directions within the Technical
Committee and member services of a technical nature which
the association is planning.
SUBCOMMITTEE BoFs - START TIME - 7:30pm
C++
Leader: Don Kretsch, AT&T
The UniForum C++ group meets several times each year, often
in conjunction with other industry events. Don Kretsch, the
chairman of the group, along with other active members will
discuss a variety of topics of interest to C++ aficionados.
Internationalization
Leader: Lorie Goudie, SCO
The UniForum Technical Committee Working Group on
Internationalization, chaired by Lorie Goudie, is one of our
most active, and is at the center of standards efforts. The
working group will be meeting during the week prior to this
conference, and will present an update of their activities
at the BoF, along with an overview of the status of
internationalization efforts worldwide.
Networking
Leader: Tim Baker, Ford Aerospace
Networking and network interfaces are becoming increasingly
important in almost every aspect of computer and software
use and design. This BoF, led by Tim Baker, who has been
active in both UniForum and IEEE POSIX network-related
activities, up date the latest activities and directions
within the standards efforts.
Performance Measurement
Leader: Ram Chelluri, AT&T
Presentations at this BoF will depict the current status of
major areas of performance measurement technology and
examine how well current methods satisfy real-world
requirements. Speakers include Krishna Dronamraju, AT&T,
for the Transaction Processing Council; Mike Andrews, Amdahl
Corp., for the UNIX International SIG; David Hinnant, BNR
Corp, for the IEEE POSIX P1003.7 working group; and
representatives from SPEC and The Perfect Club.
Security
Leader: Jeanne Baccash, AT&T
Presentations at this BoF will provide insight on the
current status of security related issues and activities.
Speakers include Thomas Malarkey of NCSC, Iveta Trautmanis
of X/Open, Dennis Steinauer of the IEEE P1003.6 working
group, and Charles Testa of TRUSIX. A question-and-answer
period will follow.
User Interface
Leader: Sunil Mehta, Unisys
User interfaces, particularly those that are graphical in
nature, are always of great interest. This BoF will provide
an overview of the current issues within the arena of
graphical user interfaces, and will include presentations on
some of the leading contenders (Motif, Open Look, etc.)
Sunil Mehta, the BoF leader, has been active in this area
for several years, and chairs the IEEE POSIX P1201 working
group that deals with user interfaces.
