conf2 doesn't compile

has anyone hacked on conf2 [ volume 16, first 5 issues ] from
comp.sources.unix?

i dived right in assuming it would compile anywheres as the author
claimed and promptly found that it wouldn't ...  i am running on
a plexus p/95 running something like S5R2.
