Names2 name generator problem

A few weeks ago I posted a random name generator to comp.sources.misc.
It's worked for some people (thanks for the fan mail!), but others have
had a problem with it generating nasty gibberish like this:

cro.kle.gla.gla.gla.ria.rd.gla.ehc.gla.fla.mtu.fne.hra.crh.hna.ee.crh.bur.o-

instead of the beautiful gibberish it's supposed to produce.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to get it to do this here.  It works
perfectly on a Mac (with MPW) and a Sun3, but (users tell me) fails on
BSD 4.3 and Ultrix-32 versions 3.0 and 3.1.

As I can't reproduce the fault, I can't do anything to fix it.  If anyone
out there had this problem and managed to fix it, could they please tell
me the answer or post it here?
