This misses the point. The original poster wanted to capture a piece of
the screen AFTER the fact. In general this is only possible if you are
running a windowing system on top of Unix. Several windowing systems with
such capabilities exist; unfortunately, no standard is yet evident (though
the folks at Berkeley are actively investigating this issue).
