Here's a simple terminal-locking shell script that works under 4.2bsd.

: This archive ends with exit, so do not worry about trailing junk.
echo 'Extracting lock'
sed 's/^X//' > lock << '+ END-OF-FILE lock'
Xlock
+ END-OF-FILE lock
chmod 'u=rw,g=r,o=r' 'lock'
echo ' -rw-r--r-- 1 mff 5 Sep 13 08:42 lock (as sent)'
echo -n ' '
/bin/ls -l lock
exit 0
Of course, it might not be too useful if you're running something else...
