That (parallel port) isn't the problem. I've also seen character loss at
19.2k, using a non-telebit modem, w/ HFC, running V.32/V.42 (which does
software flow control on the link), independent of UUCP protocols (since I
wasn't using uucp).

I've never seen this in 3.51 or 3.51m.
