512 Byte File Systems on Unix-PC

I know that many of the utilities (fsck, etc) on the Unix-PC do not support
512 byte file systems, but does anyone know if the kernel has had this option
exorcised? I would truly like to be able to play around with making and
mounting a 512 byte file system -- I think it would be a big win for netnews
applications.
If you have any information on this, please let me know.
Thanks,
