I remember last week we were talking about the possiblility of
porting an X client into the 630 MTG terminal. I just noticed that
Network Computing Devices sells something called the NCD16 network
display station that starts at a base retail price of $2550.
The NCD16 is a hardware collection that is quite similar in
description to the 630 terminal. The NCD16 is based around a 12.5
MHz 68K CPU with 1 to 4.5 meg of RAM. An article on Page 11 of the
January 30, 1989 Infoworld says that thick and thin wire ethernet
connectors and RS-232 are included and RS-422 optional.
The screen is 16" diagonal with 1024*1024 pixels that yields a 105
dpi pitch (monochome). The refresh rate is 70 Hz.
The article goes on to say that cheaper terminals with less
resolution will be forthcoming.
Sounds like a pretty good deal to me if the terminal really does
what they claim. Naturally, I don't have any connections with the
aforementioned company; I just thought it was an interesting
follow-on to last week's discussion.
