UNIX PC uucp problem

Hello netlanders. I hope someone's able to help me.
I've been having a problem with my UNIXPC's uucp ever since I got the
machine last September. I have made many attempts at establishing a
usable link to several systems, including The Store, all without
success. My system's uucp has not made one single transfer. I called
AT&T about my problem a while back, but they were not at all helpful.
Is there something unusual about the stock uucp supplied with 3.51 that I
should know? Or am I just setting up the L.sys entries incorrectly
(I'm not using the admin-kit)? Here are the lines I tried to use for
The Store and osu-cis:
shop Any ph0 1200 12019574646 "" BREAK "" BREAK "" BREAK "" BREAK ""
BREAK "" BREAK "" ogin:--ogin: shop
osu-cis Any ph0 1200 16142923112 "" \r\c Name? osu-cis nected \c GO
\r\d\r\d\r\d ogin:--ogin:--ogin: Uanon
I get entries in my LOGFILE like these:
osu-ci!twong (6/29-0:42:23) (U,304,0) QUE'D (C.osu-cinA0040)
osu-ci!uucp (6/29-0:42:58) (C,306,0) OK (DIAL ph0 P16142923112 30)
After the OK DIAL, there is no further communication with the system
I'm trying to contact. I usually lose the line or get timed out and
the modem hangs up. I have not had a single successful login.
I'm using the 1200 baud on-board modem. Are the L.sys entries my
problem (If so, how does one create a correct entry, especially for
the two systems mentioned above)? Or is there a bug in the software?
I would appreciate all help anyone can give me, as I do not have a great
deal of experience in system managing -- this is my first UNIX
machine. The UNIX PC is so different from the VAX we have at CRH.
