Using a different ST-506 Hard Drive in a 3B2/310

I would like to replace the 30MB drive in my 3B2/310 with a 72MB
drive made by Micropolis.  I tried using the idtools disk to
format the drive, but it can't talk to the drive.  I think the
trouble is the Drive ID number must correspond to the drive type.
Does anyone know how to get this to work?  Thanks,
