What does 'W_sel_inode: canput_W_sel' mean?

I've been getting a lot of these error messages on the console of my
3B2/700 (3.2.1 UNIX, WIN/3B 3.0.1):
  W_sel_inode: canput_W_sel=(some number)
there are also some control characters mixed in there as well.

This seems to be caused by running the X11R4 xterm program.
Could someone enlighten me as to what the message means and, more
importantly, how to get rid of them.
