Adding Hardrive & Controller to 6300 (M24)?

I'm writing this on a dinosaur -- an Olivetti M24, best known as the
AT&T 6300, but this one's skin says Xerox 6064. It still has two
360k floppies, which are connected to the main circuit boards.
It has standard XT motherboard slots with proprietary 16bit extender
sockets at the opposite end from where IBM put them. (Ths is an 8086
that came out pre-AT.)
Also sitting in front of me is a WD1002-WA2 disk controller,
which has a standard AT-bus edge connector, which a friend gave me
with the 20M hard drive that it used to drive in his AT before he bought
a 120M & controller last weekend.
Q1. Is the WD1002-WA2 capable of working in an 8 bit slot? I've heard
that some AT cards will sense the lack of high address and data
(and duplicate control lines) and automatically switch to slow-mode
(using only 8bit transfer).
Q2. Am I missing something obvious in the M24 -- does the two-floppy
controller include a HD controller even if HD not installed, and
if so do I need peculiar cables?
Q3. I don't think I can safely remove the FD controller built into the M24.
The WD card and most other controllers for HDs of course provides for
two floppies also. How do I get them to coexist?
Thanks in advance,
