Backup commands

THere is a variety of commands that can be used to backup the disks
on the 6386 WGS running SYS V, I need some recommendations on specific 
commands that i can use to cover 2 possible situations:

1. What's the best way to back up partitions in case the whole partition
   is lost, I'm especially concerned about root and user partitions.
   I don't especially care for the SYSTEM BACKUP that FACE uses, or the 
   seperate procedure for device files.

2. What's the best way to backup in order to return individual files
   or directories ?

THe machine has 3-600MB disks and a 120MB tape unit, so the backups will
be multi-tape.
