Archives and Informix Online

Does anyone out there use Informix Online (Version 4.00.UD3) on a 
Pyramid 9845 or MI Server or similar?

Have you ever tried to archive using a 9 track tape and gone over two
tapes?

We cant make this work!  Whenever we get to the third tape, we get

	ptape00 not ready - errno 9
                    (Unix Error - EBADF - Bad File Number 
                      descriptor refers to no open file or a read request
                      is made to a file open only for writing)

The same tape works if its used as the first or second tape. 

We have tried an abundance of tapes, different tape drives, changing blocking
factors, cleaning the tape drive, configuring with 20k locks, and standing
on our heads.

Please, if anyone has any ideas, let them be known, by phone if possible.
