utmp entries

Does anyone have source code that updates both the ucb and att utmp entries
on a Pyramid?  Even hacked from the libraries?  I'd like to fix several
applications that I currently don't let touch the utmp files (screen, 11r4
xterm, etc).  I'm also debating having an xdm script enter and remove utmp
entries from Xstartup and Xreset.
