The Software Development Pkg contains the following things:
C compiler front-end
Common compiler back-end tools (optimizers, code-generators, linkers)
Standard system header and libraries
Basic language tools (library archiver, symbol table dumpers, etc.)
"prof" and "pixie" code profilers
"dbx" debugger
"edge" - a multiwindowed graphical interface to dbx
The FORTRAN option requires the Software Development Package to provide
headers, libraries, and tools which are common to the SGI compilers. The
only things provided in the FORTRAN option are the:
FORTRAN compiler front-end
FORTRAN specific headers and libraries
FORTRAN specific tools
The profilers, debuggers and other system tools work with C, FORTRAN, Pascal,
and PL/1 and so are sold only in the Software Development Package.
The Ada compiler uses some but not all of the Software Developement Tools.
For examble, Ada has it's own debugger instead of using dbx/edge but the
profiling tools prof and pixie work with Ada.
The Laser Printer Support Package contains all of the tools and drivers to
support printing on your system using a an Apple LaserWriter NT. And so you
need it.
The Documentor's WorkBench contains the tools for document preparation using
nroff/ditroff (psroff). You'll have to make the decision whether or not you
need this capability.
