Logging console errors to syslog

We have Irix 3.2.? on a Personal Iris.  Recently I arranged for syslog messages
to be sent to the parallel port (both serial ports are taken so we can't have a
hard copy console) in an attempt to log disk errors permanently.

However, I have noticed that whenever there is an active console window that
disk errors are not logged via syslog.  This causes these messages to be lost,
which makes it very hard to survey the error messages.

Is there any way to make Irix unconditionally log all errors to syslog?
