The problem is due to a bug in ftell() in a special circumstance.
It will be fixed in the 3.3 maintenance release. Meanwhile you can work
around this problem by adding a dummy statement:
CALL FSEEK(40, 0, 1) ! seek to the same position
just before the backspace statement.
