Strange X behaviour under 3.3

[Of all things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.]

Hello all,

	Our X server, on a PI4D/20 running 3.3, is behaving strangely.  All the
supplied utilities work fine, but a locally written utility refuses to keep 
two windows on the screen at the same time.  Not being an X guru (or even 
anywhere close), I wonder if anyone has had any similiar sort of problem.
The same program works fine when I run it remotely from a DecStation 3000.

Any help is appreciated.  Please reply to me and I'll summarize if there's any
interest.
