Diskless configuration

I know this sounds really weird...
I have a 4D/220 without disks. I would like to bring it up in diskless
mode. I followed the instructions in the Administrator's Guide for
Diskless Workstations. I specified IP5 for machine type.
When running clinst, at one point I got the following error:
Yp update error, 2
This error is caused by the program /usr/etc/yp/yp_bootparam. So the YP
were updated with the proper information. I included it myself.
If I try to boot the machine, I'm able to get the kernel but it can't
find it's root. And there doesn't seem to be any request for
rpc.bootparamd on the network. Also, each time I reset the machine, the
prom resets some values. It resets the root variable (which I unset
because it used to point to some disk that doesn't exist) and it doesn't
keep the bootfile variable properly, it truncates it.
I know it's clearly stated in the manual that the instructions apply to
a 4D/20 but I don't see why I couldn't do it for a 4D/220.
Any idea anybody?
