SGI 4D/340VGX  running 3.3.1

I've made _ rn.c,v 4.3.2.11 91/01/04_ of news.  This is software I got
from lib.tmc.edu.  Pretty much just typed _Configure_ ( this is for
a news client ), etc.  I get _rrn: Unexpected close of server socket_
when I try to save/write an article.  

Have I done something wrong or is it the nntp server that's the villain?
