Tar problem using System Manage/Backup&Restore

After I used System Manager/Backup&Restore system utility, I have
problem to read the files  on the tape by "tar t". It gave me
"tar: directory checksum error". Is this because the System Manager/
Backup&Restore doesn't use tar command?
