C++ and libtask.a

Silicon Graphic's C++ Programmer's Guide says in Chapter 5...

    Silicon Graphics does not provide the AT&T task library
    libtask.a, which is inherently nonportable to the IRIS-4D
    processors.

Why is it inherently nonportable?
