mailbox bombarding network?

Hi gang...

Does anyone out there get network problems from mailbox?  We run it on
PIs at IRIX 3.3.2, and it generates an incredible amount of traffic.
(We're using xbiff instead!)  Does anyone else have this problem?  We
are considering the option to poll less frequently, as well as using
an envelope counter which does a 'sleep' or something.

We like this program and want to use it, but it really seems to
generate too many ethernet packets.  Any similar experiences or
advice?  Thanks a bunch.
