SPARC sounds

I recently picked up the latest SUG tape at the conference and attempted
to play the sound samples on that tape.  I cat-ed them to /dev/audio and
just got random noise.  Am I doing something wrong here?  I tried to send
email to the address given on that particular README, but I could not get
through (contel0!maxwell at philabs.philips.com).
