Here at UofToronto, many people in the CS deptt, CSRI, and the EE deptt
have found X11R3 with Purdue speedups, compiled with gcc, (and with a few
local mods) to run noticeably faster than SunView on our 4M mono Sun3/50
and 3/60s. The fact that you can start up remote applications on the new
faster (often non-Sun) machines and have them display on the 4M on your
disk means you don't have to throw away the Sun3/50 on your desk just
because you want to run Common Lisp applications.
