A program called rpcmand is available on the 1987 Sun User Group tape.
Not only does it display fractal images, but it allows you to offload
calculating the set to any hosts capable of sending and receiving RPC
packets.
According to the README:
| This program was written by Phil Heller, sun!pheller. It has been enhanced
| and mangled by John Gilmore, hoptoad!gnu.
