Put something like the following in the client's rc.local:
if [ -f /usr/etc/ypbind ]; then
/usr/etc/ypbind && (echo -n ' ypbind') >/dev/console
# set yp server
/usr/etc/yp/ypset (IP_ADDRESS_OF_YP_SERVER)
fi
