Bizzare Strangeness.... problem solved

Many lashings with a wet Thai rice noodle for me on this one. It turns out
that my X0.hosts file had gotten munged somehow. For some reason, it
doesn't like 'localhost' as the first entry in the file, which I happened
to change from the second position in the file after `hostname`. I
probably had changed it for some reason that at the moment escapes me.....
