PCNFS and slave NIS servers

I'm having a problem authenticating users on PCNFS when the PC uses an NIS
server other than the master NIS server.  What happens is that the PC is
unable to find the master NIS server when it boots so it goes to a slave
NIS server.  When the NET NAME joe *" command executes, we always get an
authentication error.  Does anybody know whats going on? BTW, I'm running
the C2 security features.  All slave NIS servers have a rpc.pcnfsd daemon
running.
