how to examine execution stack at run time?

Well, what I want to do is not really to examine the stack in detail, but
to be able to do something similar to the "where" command in dbx.  It
often happens that I would like to find out the calling procedure, the
calling procedure of the calling procedure, etc, at certain point.   Does
anybody know how to do it?
