using the nit interface to WRITE

Is it possible to use the nit interface to WRITE to the ethernet?  I have
read the man pages on nit, nit-if and nit-buf.  I have used the example
(READ ONLY) and it works.  I have tried to use sockets and streams to
write to the ethernet with NO luck.  I have used the write, send, sendto
and sendmsg functions.  All of these functions return a good return code
BUT when I look on the network with e Sniffer nothing is coming from my
port.

Does anyone have ACTUAL experience using the nit commands?  I have talked
to numerous people (includeing Sun ) who claim it is possible but have not
actually done it.
