3rd party SCSI disks on SparcStation 1+

(I don't normally follow this group, so I beg forgiveness if I'm bringing
up a subject rehashed monthly. Pointers to more appropriate newsgroups
welcome.)
I am in the process of upgrading my 3/80 to a SparcStation 1+. I
currently have only two 102 MB internal SCSI disks in the 3/80, and would
be interested in adding a higher-capacity external SCSI disk. (I already
have the 6150 external cartridge tape drive)
Given that I work with PC's and Mac's a lot, and know how much less I can
pick up a disk there as opposed to a Sun-labeled drive, and given that the
net helped us understand that a CDC Wren works just fine on a NeXT
workstation, I am hoping that I might be able to find a 3rd party solution
to adding a disk that is more cost-effective than the Sun solution.
Of course I would prefer that it install easily and be compatible with the
existing OS and drivers, etc. I know that the intent vs. reality of SCSI
portability often makes this a bigger issue than it should be, but I can't
help but believe that someone out there has already done the
experimentation and found good working solutions.
I would appreciate any suggestions that someone could mail me. If this
*is* a recurring discussion, perhaps someone has even kept a summary to
mail to newcomers such as myself to quickly silence the discussion :-)
I appreciate in advance any pointers.
