maximum socket buffer size

Hi.  We have an application where we are increasing the UDP socket receive
buffer size using setsockopt.  Are the maximum values documented or
obtainable by any other method than experimentation?  Assuming one wanted
the maximum possible buffer, how should this be programmed?

Empirically, the maximum appears to be approximately 52000 bytes for SunOS
4.1.1, and 61000 for AIX 3.1.
