I'm having difficulty getting my IBM machines (R/6000 AIX and
RT AOS, final rev.)) to accept a Sun NIS [a.k.a. Yellow Pages] server.
The Suns are Sun 4's running 4.1.1b.
When I have the IBMs serve: Both the Suns and the IBMs work fine.
When I have the Suns serve: The suns are still happy but the
IBM's hang.
I would prefer to use the Suns for this task since I have a lot
of them, am familiar with them and the NIS servers are all under
maitenance. I only have the one 6000 and two RTs (+ a parts machine).
I've not gotten much response on other newsgroups. Even a "We do
it here and don't have a problem" would be welcome. Even a "me too"
would be helpful.

Actually, unix is a very user-friendly system. Its just that it is
particular about which users it chooses to be friendly with. -The Oracle
