Keeping track of symbolic links

	How do you pros out there manage the symbolic links on your unix
systems?
	When I upgraded my machine from SunOS 4.0.3 to 4.1.1 (full install), I
had to go back manually to add in all the symbolic links used by third-party
and public domain software.
	Many software installation programs put links from their executables
into /bin or link a file or two into /usr/lib.  So when one does a full install
(hence a start with a clean /usr tree) do most people reinstall all their
third-party software?
	I thought of maintaining a script/table that would contain all the 'ln'
commands to create the links, and run that after I did a full install.
	My other concern is if I left this job and a future administrator had
to do a full install, how would he/she know where the important links where?
