DAT's on RS/6000

Has anyone had any luck attaching a DAT tape drive to a RS/6000
(in particular, a 320)?  I had heard somewhere that there were
problems using 3rd party 8mm drives, and wondered if anyone had
tried using a DAT.  Please email, or follow up if you think this
is of general interest.  We are prepared to try it here, but it 
may take several days to setup, and wondering if anyone had tried
this.
